The very first 8 Adelante Mujer medical graduates from URACCAN (University of the Autonomous Region of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua) have now completed their 3 years of required community service. When they finished their 6 years of study, our funding stopped, but they are not yet at the end of their program nor of their expenses.
When we travel to Bilwi, Puerto Cabezas, we regularly visit the local hospital to check on our students and some of our graduates who are now practicing doctors. My first visit was in 2016 and I was shocked to see the conditions (see the Jan. 2017 blog ‘My First Trip: Bilwi, Puerto Cabezas).
These nine remarkable woman graduated from URACCAN University on Feb. 24, 2018. We now have a total of thirty-one doctors who were supported by your donations and are now working as doctors in that region. These doctors received your support, through Adelante Mujer, between one to four years during their studies. All nine have now begun their internships at the local hospital and clinics.
People have many reasons for giving. What follows are some facts about giving and some of the comments we have received from our donors:
If you believe in miracles, you will see it is a series of miracles that support the success of Adelante Mujer. And who are the miracle makers?
We often write about our new Adelante Mujer doctors and our current medical students. This blog is devoted to donors and future donors. To YOU!
After joining the Board of Directors of Adelante Mujer in July 2016 I made my first visit to the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, the second poorest region in the Western Hemisphere, in December. I was thrilled to be able to travel to Bilwi/Puerto Cabezas, with Sister Diane Bauknecht, where we attended the graduation of nine (one not pictured) new Adelante Mujer Doctors.
Congratulations to Adelante Mujer Doctors: Yeritza, Lidicy, Natalia, Jomarie, Keila, Kira, Elisa del Carmen, Rosa, and to Kathlen who is not in the photo.
We have really good news to share. As of December 5, 2016, Adelante Mujer, with every single one of our donors, can celebrate another milestone of success and joy. On that sunny, tropical day in Bilwi/Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua nine of our current students raised their right hands and pronounced the Hippocratic Oath that invested them with all the responsibilities of medical doctors.
Adelante Mujer is blessed by so many good people who contribute in so many different ways. They are donors of money without whom we could not exist. They are benefactors who donate time and labor and expertise like our web developer James Sharp from Glendale Designs and our Board of Directors whose services are totally uncompensated. The Sisters of St. Agnes surely belong to our list of blessings because they allow us to use an office with all its amenities.
You cannot imagine the joy and excitement when these photos arrived. During a medical mission trip on the Rio Coco (Coconut River) between the Central American countries of Nicaragua and Honduras, two wonderful people.
